Fun Fact

Statue Of Liberty

The Statue Of Liberty located in New York City, a symbol of our countries independence was a gift from the French to us after the Civil War. It was accepted by the president on October 28, 1886, which makes her 124 years old!

Did you know that the Statue Of Liberty is made out of copper and steel. It's green because of the rust of the copper which makes it green. It weighs about 405,000 Pounds and 305 feet from the base to the tip of the torch, and has about 60,00 pounds of copper and 250,000 pounds of steel. Which means the scrap value of the Statue Of Liberty for copper is about $240,000 and for the steel is about $125,000 for a total of about $365,000 of scrap value! Imagine scrapping the much copper and steel..that is a lot of money, but nothing compared to the sentimental value of it.

Well, just thought that you'd like to know. :-) Happy Scrapping!

  5. I did not know that you could utilize so many things from a broken laptop. There are just so many things out there that we can reuse even after the product as a whole doesn't work. I really want to try and reuse everything that I can without wasting it and start making a difference.

  6. I love learning about the different materials that go into making famous monuments throughout time. It's interesting to see what kinds of metal the world was doing when different pieces were created. I love seeing how ancient Greece used stones and huge pillars of rock. And then we began to modernize and use metals. And eventually we found that different metals should be used for different architecture. Very interesting to say the least!

  7. I always thought it was just painted green or something, turns out you really do learn something new everyday! I wish I could build something so monumental with all of my scrap metal but I'll probably just take it to a metal recycling and get some money for it which is equally as good I guess. Now every time I show my friends around new york I can tell them these cool facts.
